Confusion & Mistakes about the Triune God

Here brief bullet points for 3 categories of 16 mis-takes on the biblical theology of the Triune God:

A. The Holy Spirit is not truly God

1) Binitarian-ism:

Binitarianism is also known as Pneumatomachi (which literally means “Battling against the Spirit”) and as Macedonians.
• The Holy Spirit is not God.
• Only God-the-Father and Jesus are God.

B. Jesus and the Holy Spirit are not truly God: Only God-the-Father is truly God

2) Subordination-ism:

• Jesus and the Holy Spirit are subordinate to the Father.

3) Arian-ism:

• God-the-Son existed before Jesus was incarnated on Earth, but was not eternal.

4) Adoption-ism:

• Jesus merely was a regular human.
• God-the-Father adopted the human Jesus to become god-like.

5) Ebionites:

• Jesus merely was a regular human.
• Because Jesus was sinless when he was baptized, God-the-Father chose Jesus as his messianic figure.

6) Dynamic Monarch-ianism:

Dynamic Monarchianism is also known as Dynamism.
• God-the-Son was not eternal but was created.
• God-the-Father had to empower Jesus to be god-like.

7) Jehovah’s Witnesses:

• Jesus is Michael the arch-angel who was a lower-level god.

8) Christ-adelphians:

• Jesus was not eternal but was created.
• The Holy Spirit is merely God’s power.

9) Socinian Unitarian-ism:

• Jesus was not eternal but was created.
• Jesus is not God and therefore should not be worshipped.

10) Strict Unitarian-ism:

• Jesus was not eternal but was created.
• God’s divinity (i.e., god-ness) cannot be shared and therefore Jesus cannot be God-the-Son.

11) One-ness Pentacostalism:

• God appears in 3 different modes or forms (Father, Son, Spirit).
• God-the-Son was not eternal but was created.

12) Modal-ism:

Modalism is also known as Sabellianism or Modalistic Monarchianism or Patripassianism.
• God appears in 3 different modes or forms (Father, Son, Spirit).
• Jesus did not really die.

13) Partial-ism:

• Jesus is a part of God.

C. More than one God — God is not really God

14) Tri-theism:

• God-the-Father, and God-the-Son, and the Holy Spirit are three separate gods.

15) Mormonism (Latter-Day Saints):

• God is merely the god of our universe — there are an infinite number of universes, each with their own god.
• Jesus was a man from another universe who earned a promotion to have a harem of women in heaven to populate our Earth.
• Men (especially white men) who act very godly on Earth will be elevated after death to become the god of their own universe which they will populate through their own harem of women.

16) Poly-theism:

• The God of the Bible is just one of many gods.
